About

I have been a software developer for many years. I started out in the IT industry as a Computer Operator(remember those) working shifts for a small Geophysical company. We processed tape reels brought in from the field. Once the data had been crunched we plotted large seismic charts. The computer room housed a Convex C1 supercomputer as well as old-school tape machines, disk units the size of washing machines and wall to wall air conditioning blowers. Coats and gloves were de rigeur all year round in that room!

My first coding job was for a medium-sized electrical manufacturer running a Unisys mainframe connected to dumb green terminals. I spent my days writing Cobol reports. Anyone remember Cobol? When Java was first released it caught my attention and I changed direction working for a start-up as a VB/Java coder. This company was eventually bought by Cognos, an analytics company and later by an even bigger fish, namely IBM, The Big Blue.

Nowadays I mainly code front-end Javascript with a bit of React on the side! Enjoy the blog.
